Picturesque Gibb's

Gibb's Island, near Killyleagh, County Down, was the venue today for the National Trust's Strangford Lough task force.

There were ten of us today. We undertook a number of jobs, including barrier fencing, a little stone-walling and path maintenance.

This little island - practically a peninsula - is picturesque and a haven for wild flora and fauna.

Quoile yacht club is located adjacent to Gibb's.

There are still quite a few yachts on their moorings, including a handsome vessel called Glance which, I am told, was built in the 1920s.

Glance was actually built 1894, and has had a distinguished career and roll of owners over the years. There is a full history here - http://yachtglance.com/pb/wp_8ee70604/wp_8ee70604.html Her current owner keeps her in good condition (with a lot of hard work!) VC
